3-Day Seminar on “Science Writing and Science Metrics” held by Dr. Gasparyan

The second round of the 3-day seminar on “Science Writing and Science Metrics” was held by Dr. Armen Yuri Gasparyan at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences on 27-29 September, 2016.

Dr. Gasparyan is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Birmingham and also a member of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE). In his lectures, Dr. Gasparyan explained the current regulations of science writing and trained the editors, authors and researchers of TUOMS in publication affairs.

The topics of the seminar included:

1- Main recommendations on research reporting and publication ethics of international organizations of interest to scientific authors, reviewers and journal editors.

2- Wasteful, or 'predatory' journals, publishers, metrics, editing consultants, agencies and conferences. How to circumvent predatory press and choose best target journals

3- Impact indicators from Scopus and Web of Science, Webometrics and Altmetrics. Implications for indexing regional journals and improving citability.

4- Relevant and ethical references and citations.

5- Principles of plagiarism detection and prevention.

6- Retractions of published articles. Lessons learned.

7- How to write structure and improve visual components of scholarly articles.
