13th Festival of Research Week was Celebrated at TUOMS

Vice-chancellor for Research of the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences celebrated 13th festival of Research Week from 14 to 16 December, 2014. The aim of this 3-day festival was to appreciate and glorify hard working researchers of the university and introduce those with prominent research ideas. Hence, the first day was named as the Day of Technology and the second day as Student and Researcher's Day. The final day was also devoted to the closing ceremony.

In this great event which was attended by Dr. Esmail Jabbarzadeh (Tabriz Governor), Dr. Mohammad Hossein Somi (TUOMS Chancellor), Dr. Mohammad Reza Rashidi (Vice Chancellor for Research) and a number of professors and researchers, all top researchers of the university in the current year were appreciated.

Moreover, during his speech Dr. Rashidi stated that the academic status of the university has progressed based on ESI ranking system gaining the 5th position among Iranian Medical Universities. He also emphasized the importance of improving research quality, turning science into technology and its commercialization and finally summarized some of the main programs of the vice chancellor for research as follows:

1.      Supporting prominent researchers

2.      Establishing and strengthening the areas of new technology (stem cells, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine)

3.      Supporting intersectoral projects

4.      Creating knowledge transfer unit

5.      Creating the unit of relationship with industry

6.      Founding knowledge based companies

7.      Organizing large multi-sectoral program to produce monoclonal antibodies

8.      Establishing Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine institutes

9.      Internationalization of the University

Afterwards, Dr. Somi took the platform and thanked all the researchers for their great endeavor to create knowledge and improve university ranking in scientific and research circles. He also announced the early completion of the first phase of COHORT project up to the end of January 2015.

At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Jabbarzadeh delivered a short speech and expressed his deep gratitude to all hardworking researchers of the university. In addition, he appreciated the policies of new government on Social Health and Safety and declared his full support for the ideas and research projects leading to mass production and commercialization.
