Central Library
Central to all the university’s activities in academic, research and other fields, the library system provides a service to students and staff that covers all the subjects studied at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. In addition to various libraries set up in each school and hospital, the university has a Central Library, which was inaugurated in 1987. The library staff are particularly keen to provide a service which emphasises ready access to the resources of the central library, whether books and periodicals, or other material such as microfilms, audiotapes, video-cassettes, compact discs, printers, micrography, slides, learning packages, or national and international databases. In addition, the library provides bibliographic information in medical fields through the use of several databases (such as Medline, Excerptmedica, Biological Abstracts, and Science Citation Index) on a networked CD-ROM system. The on-line circulation system provided by Audio-Visual centre is accessible from terminals within the library and across the university’s computer network. The Central Library is a rich source of books and its collection comprises about 14,000 volumes in the field of medical and related sciences. An important part of this collection contains reference works such as atlases, dictionaries, encyclopedias and bibliographic materials. The Central Library operates 8. am to 8. pm, six days a week.
