About Dentistry School

The School of Dentistry started its educational activities in 1987 in the Mouth and Teeth Health School In 1995 it was moved to a new building covering an area of 30,000 square metres, equipped with hospital wards accommodating 25 beds.

In addition to the Doctor of Dentistry certificate, this school has admitted students for speciality courses since 2002. The dentistry course lasts at least 12 semesters (6 academic years). The students are required to pass 217 units including the subject matters of basic sciences and specific clinical subjects.

The first stage (basic sciences) includes 68 units over 4 semesters and after passing a comprehensive examination of basic sciences, the students enter the second stage (specific period) which consists of 149 units over 8 semesters.
One year before finishing their studies, the students select the subject of their thesis, according to the rules of school and, after defending their thesis successfully, they are awarded a Doctor of Dentistry certificate. Apart from research carried out by graduates for their theses, students’ research plans are also implemented in the students’ research centre.    Foreign graduate students who are required to gain an MSD degree should pursue a supplementary course to their studies in this school. Duration of such courses, according to the statutes of the respective Ministry, is 2-3 semesters.

Facilities
The school has two well-equipped stable and mobile laboratories and one central laboratory for the use of students and one preclinical unit with 51 artificial heads. The Dentistry clinic of this school is held in the afternoons and evenings. Since 1996, the facio-maxillary surgery unit of this school has been serving Shohada Hospital, with the active cooperation of their own department of operative surgery.

The students can benefit from other facilities of this school during their education, such as dormitory rooms, loans, medical services, self-service restaurants and gyms.

The library was founded in 1987. It has 6100 volumes of books and journals about dentistry, the rest of the books being in different subjects.    The library also provides different software programmes for the use of students. Students can use the library from 7.30 am to 12 pm, and the reading room from 7.30 am to 3 pm. They are allowed to borrow the required books for a maximum of two weeks.
